Just headed out the door for an Easter get-together at a friend’s house, but I wanted to put up a quick post to let you know some of the things we’re planning for regular-season coverage around here, and get your take on them:
--First, the gameday coverage: We’ll bring back the live threads we were doing all through spring training, and they’ll be aided by some new bells and whistles through the redesign of our website. We’ll have a few live modules on our Nationals game page, in addition to the chat, to help make it a better one-stop shop for following the games. Since you can see the games, either in person or on television, I’ll probably focus more on insight and analysis than straight play-by-play. If you’re there, you can comment on Twitter by tagging tweets with #masnnats, or you can follow the chat from your smartphone (I’ll post a link each day). Here’s my question: Does that work for an in-game plan? Anything else you’d like to see or do different? Let me know in the comments.
--After kicking it around all spring, I’ve decided I’d like to do game stories each night, much like what you’d see in a newspaper. They’ll take on a little different form from time to time, but I’ve decided to stick with them because I still believe if done well, they’re the best way to give a thorough, complete account of that day’s game and how it fits in the fabric of the overall season. We’ll play around with the format a little bit, but that’s the plan for now. What do you think?
--MASN’s blog with Mike Rizzo, called “National Matters,” will continue throughout the regular season. It will take various forms -- fan Q-and-As and video of sit-down chats between Mike and I -- but each week, we’ll have exclusive content with the Nationals general manager.
--Other goodies: I’ll continue to post audio of Jim Riggleman’s interview sessions each day, as well as any other pertinent audio. Plus, now that I have a Flip cam, I’m planning to do video journal entries from time-to-time -- nothing fancy, just me talking about the state of the team or issues that are on my mind. If there are questions that pop up in the live threads, maybe we’ll address some of those in video form, too.
--The Twitter account is here. Many times, that’s the easiest way for me to post breaking news, links to stories, insight and the occasional ramblings about things not even remotely related to the Nationals.
--Any questions or comments, just let me know. I’m a big believer in transparency and open dialog, and I’m only doing my job if you leave this site with a more complete base of Nationals and baseball knowledge. So tell me how I’m doing.
That’s it for now -- I’ll have season predictions later tonight, and we’ll hit the ground running in the morning. But I’d like to hear from you about the coverage plan, so leave your comments here and let me know what you think. Happy Opening Day!
