And a couple notes:

--John Lannan played catch today, throwing from 100 feet and getting some work in on the day he would have been pitching. He said he felt fine - “I just feel like I haven’t thrown in five days,” he said - and will throw a bullpen session on Monday in preparation for his next start, which would come Thursday in Colorado. “During the game, it might be weird (not pitching),” Lannan said. “But I needed this rest, and I’m glad they gave it to me.”

--Lannan’s return means Matt Chico’s start today is probably an isolated appearance, but manager Jim Riggleman said “it doesn’t mean we couldn’t do some other things with him.” The Nationals are short a reliever, and keeping Chico on the roster would give them a seven-man bullpen again.

--Just a thought, based on pure speculation and a scheduling quirk: The Nationals and Orioles are scheduled for a 4:05 start at Nationals Park two weeks from today. That’s in the national blackout window, unless they know Fox is picking up that game. Fox has to give MASN some advance notice about picking up the game, especially since it involves both of MASN’s teams. But the start time seems odd for any other reason. Hey, come to think of it, Stephen Strasburg is scheduled to pitch that day. Hmm...

That’s enough conspiracy theories from me for now. But I will be talking Strasburg on Nats Xtra around 12:35, so you can watch me there, and I’ll have the live thread for the 1:05 start.
