Here is this week’s Nationals minor-league report from PR representative Bill Gluvna.

MY, OH MEYERS: Double-A Harrisburg RHP Brad Meyers allowed his first runs of the season in his 4th start of the year on Monday vs. Bowie (Orioles), ending a string of 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings spanning 3 starts...Meyers, Washington’s 2009 Minor League Pitcher of the Year, is 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA (2 ER/22.2 IP) and a .177 BAA (14-for-79) in 4 starts...he’s struck out 27 and walked only 4 (6.75/1 SO/BB ratio)...Meyers was selected in the 5th round of the 2007 Draft out of Loyola Marymount University (CA).

27-17, 2nd Place, 0.5 Game Back

CHIEF OF STATE: In 9 combined starts with Syracuse and Harrisburg, RHP Stephen Strasburg is 6-1 with a 0.99 ERA...Strasburg’s stingy .139 batting average against is the lowest in minor league baseball among starting pitchers...with 54 strikeouts and 10 walks in 45.1 innings pitched, Strasburg owns a 5.4/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and averages 10.7 strikeouts per 9.0 4 Triple-A starts with Syracuse, he is 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA (1 ER/23.1 IP)...the San Diego State product fired 21.0 consecutive scoreless innings before allowing his first run at the Triple-A level, Monday vs. Toledo...prior to joining Syracuse, Strasburg went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA (4 ER/22.0 IP) in 5 starting assignments with Harrisburg.

JOEL THE PROPHET: RHP Joel Peralta’s 13 saves in as many opportunities rank 2nd in the International League and are tied for 4th in minor league 18 appearances, he is 1-0 with a 0.86 ERA (2 ER/21.0 IP)...Peralta last allowed an earned run on April 30 at Toledo, or 26 days ago...the Bonao, Dominican Republic native has fanned 26 in 21.0 innings, an average of 11.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings...Peralta was signed by Washington as a minor-league free agent, December 15, 2009.

START ME UP: RHP J.D. Martin is 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA (12 ER/36.1 IP) and a .239 (32-for-134) batting average against in 6 starts...he has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 4 of his starts...Martin, a 2009 Triple-A International League All-Star, went 5-4 with a 4.44 ERA in 15 starts at the big league level with Washington last season.

UH-OH, HERE COMES MARRERO!: 1B Chris Marrero homered in 4 straight games (May 21-24) after clubbing just 3 homers in his first 40 games (142 AB) of the season...overall, Marrero is hitting .255 with 7 doubles, 7 home runs and 24 RBI in 45 games...he was the Nationals’ top selection (15th overall) in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

TOMMY BOY: In 5 May starting assignments, LHP Tom Milone owns a 3-1 record with a 2.25 ERA (7 ER/28.0 IP)...overall, the 23-year-old southpaw is 4-1 with a 3.04 ERA (16 ER/47.1 IP) and a 4.5/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (36 SO/8 BB)...Milone, selected in the 10th round of the ‘08 Draft out of the University of Southern California, led Washington farmhands with 12 wins last season.

GET OUT OF MY DREAMS, GET INTO MY CARR!: RHP Adam Carr is 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA (8 ER/22.2 IP) in 16 appearances...the Oklahoma State University product has struck out 20 and walked only 2...Carr has worked at least 2.0 innings in 7 of his 16 appearances...the 26-year-old was Washington’s 18th-round selection in the 2006 Draft.

Carolina League Northern Division
21-25, T-2nd Place, 6.0 Games Back

MIKE AND IKE: OF Michael Burgess paces the Carolina League with 37 RBI, and ranks 2nd with 25 walks...he has hit safely in 21 of his last 26 games, going 32-for-100 (.320) with 9 doubles, 5 homers and 30 RBI...the strong-armed outfielder is 4th in the Carolina League with 5 outfield assists...Burgess, a 2-time Minor League All-Star (2008, ‘09) , was drafted by Washington in the sandwich round (49th overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft.

THE BIG PAHUTA: 1B/3B Tim Pahuta leads the league with a .606 slugging percentage...the Seton Hall product ranks among the CL leaders in home runs (2nd, 10), extra-base hits (t-2nd, 22), OPS (4th, .968) and total bases (7th, 86)...Pahuta was selected by Washington in the 18th round of the 2005 Draft.

DR. KIMBALL: Beginning May 3, RHP Cole Kimball has tossed 11.1 consecutive scoreless innings in 10 appearances...overall, Kimball has a team-best 3 wins and a 1.82 ERA (5 ER/24.2 IP) in 19 games...his 6 saves are t-2nd in the CL...he’s offered scoreless relief in 17 of 19 appearances...the 24-year-old out of Centenary College (NJ) was Washington’s 12th-round pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

GUNS N’ ROSENBAUM: LHP Dan Rosenbaum has fired 20.0 consecutive scoreless innings in his last 3 starts...he has 19 strikeouts against just 2 walks (9.5/1 SO/BB ratio) in that span...despite his 1.53 ERA (9 ER 53.0 IP) in 9 starts, Rosenbaum hasn’t earned a win since his season debut on April 8...the southpaw was the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 10-16...among South Atlantic League pitchers, he ranks 4th in ERA and tied for 8th in WHIP (0.96)...Rosenbaum was selected in the 22nd round of the 2009 Draft out of Xavier University (OH).

HOLDING HIS OWN: In his last 4 starts, RHP Trevor Holder is 4-0 with a 1.44 ERA (4 ER/25.0 IP)...he’s struck out 15 and has issued just one walk in those contests...overall, he is 4-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 9 starting assignments...the former Georgia Bulldog has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 7 of those starts...Holder, 23, was Washington’s 3rd-round pick in the ‘09 Draft.

BUILDING BLOX(OM): 1B Justin Bloxom, 22, ranks among the South Atlantic League leaders in hits (4th, 54), doubles (t-5th, 15) and batting average (7th, .310)...he has hit safely in 35 of 44 games overall...the Kansas State University product was selected in the 11th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.
