Action, tempers heating up

I’m back from the stands now, having given up in my battle with the Victory Knot. It was a valiant fight, but we ultimately bowed out three-quarters of the way through the behemoth, taking a couple chunks home for snacks tomorrow. Things are starting to get a little interesting here.

The Nats took the lead on Ian Desmond’s single to ieft, adding another run when Roger Bernadina scored on a sac fly to center, his ill-advised decision to run redeemed when Drew Stubbs’ throw spiked off the mound and down the third base line. But as Desmond tried to advance to third on the play, he slid hard into third base, barely keeping his foot on the bag. Third-base umpire Paul Schreiber called Desmond safe, but first-base umpire Joe West came racing in, and after a brief huddle, the call was overturned. Desmond was ejected from the game, though the Nationals’ fourth run scored before he was called out. The Nationals lead 4-2 after 7 1/2, and will get Matt Capps a chance to notch his 18th save.

As for the pretzel -- well, here’s the picture. My wife and I had each already had something to eat, and I don’t think we were mentally ready for such an exhausting challenge. Who Dat claims it can be eaten by two people, but I disagree.
