Trying to prevent a sweep in Detroit, the Nationals haven’t started particularly well against the Tigers today. Detroit has six hits on Luis Atilano, and the Nationals have committed a pair of errors. They’ve only managed one baserunner against Jeremy Bonderman, and they trail 2-0 in the fourth.
The Nationals hit a couple long fly balls to start the game, but Don Kelly caught them at the wall. In the third inning, they didn’t make much contact against Bonderman at all. Ryan Zimmerman, who’s been slumping the entire series, singled to left, but Adam Dunn hit his second long flyout of the game to end the Nationals’ half of the fourth.
The only good thing for Atilano has been his ability to get himself out of trouble, as he’s usually able to do. But the Nationals need to get out of their offensive funk quickly.
