Stephen Strasburg’s major league career, only a week old, already has its first major award.
Strasburg was named National League Player of the Week on Monday after winning his first two starts and striking out 22 batters in 12 1/3 innings.
It ends a week that couldn’t have gone much better for Strasburg or the Nationals. He came one strikeout away from equaling a big-league record in his debut -- he struck out 14 -- and battled mound problems to strike out eight while allowing one run against the Indians on Sunday. But he also sold tickets, at home and on the road, and was a big reason why TBS picked up the Nationals-Indians game on Sunday.
He has a 2.19 ERA in two starts, and will make his next start on Friday night against the White Sox.
