Werth noting

Before I head out the door for Nationals Park...

Here’s an interesting piece from Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com suggesting the Phillies could wind up being sellers before the trade deadline, though they remain buyers for now.

Rosenthal and Morosi suggest the Phillies could make a deal for a big-name pitcher like Cliff Lee (again?!) or Dan Haren. But the most interesting tidbit of this for Nats fans is the idea that they could shop right fielder Jayson Werth, with whom they’ve had difficulty negotiating a contract extension, before the deadline.

Werth would be A) supremely expensive, both in a trade package and the contract he’d command after the season and B) the kind of player with the potential to transform the Nationals’ lineup.

If the Phillies decide to shop Werth, the Nats would be facing some deep-pocketed bidders, and I don’t know if the Phillies would want to ship him to a team within the division. But the situation is worth watching, for the potential impact on the Nats and the fascinating proposition that the Phillies could be selling.

And then there’s this: I crushed all of you in fantasy baseball last week. Check the Week 13 standings and cry...
