This is the kind of night the Nationals have been waiting to give Stephen Strasburg -- one where he could cruise through six innings with a little margin for error, even though he didn’t need it.
In his last start before the All-Star break, they finally did it.
The Nationals hammered Giants starter Matt Cain for eight runs in an 8-1 win over the Giants, giving Strasburg his third big-league win. After allowing a leadoff homer to Andres Torres, Strasburg used a killer changeup and sharp slider to shut down an aggressive fastball-hitting lineup.
Adam Dunn homered twice for the Nationals, and now has five homers in his last three games. He missed a second three-homer game by a couple feet, doubling off the center field wall in the sixth inning.
