The Nationals made a couple of minor league player moves today, moving right-hander Orlando Hernandez and second baseman Stephen Lombardozzi to Double-A Harrisburg.
Hernandez, who signed with the Nationals last month, was seen as something of a guide for Yunesky Maya.
The fact that he’s headed to Harrisburg either means that the Nationals are comfortable enough to have Maya on his own and put Hernandez where he belongs, or that Maya is moving quickly, too.
Hernandez had allowed one run in six innings in the Gulf Coast League.
Lombardozzi had a .293 average, a homer, 38 RBI and 20 steals at Single-A Potomac. He’d also scored 71 runs.
He’ll help fill some of the void left by Danny Espinosa, who moved to Syracuse last week, but Lombardozzi is also moving quickly through the system, too; he spent most of last year at Single-A Hagerstown.
