Marquis better, but Nats fall 1-0 to Phillies

PHILADELPHIA | The good news for the Nationals: Jason Marquis, for the first time this year, gave them a chance to win. The bad news: For the first time this year, they had a chance to win against Roy Halladay, and didn’t get it done.

Despite Marquis turning in his first solid outing of the year, allowing one run in five innings, the Nationals squandered one chance after another in a 1-0 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Ian Desmond got doubled off second base in a key seventh-inning play, and hit the wall with a ninth-inning double that was a foot or two too low to clear the left-field fence and tie the game.

More from the clubhouse in a little bit.
