Harris homer puts Nationals up 1-0 over Phillies

For all the trouble Willie Harris has had being consistent in limited at-bats this year, he’s able to spice up the Nationals’ offense from time to time when he does play. He’s got a .289 on-base percentage despite having a .183 average, and hit his ninth homer of the year on Sunday afternoon.

Harris got a poorly-located changeup from Joe Blanton in the third inning and pulled it to right for a solo shot that put the Nationals up 1-0. It’s where they sit now after three innings.

The Citizens Bank Park crowd quickly got on Blanton, who has a 4.97 ERA this year and has fallen out of favor as the Phillies add aces at the top of their staff.

Yunesky Maya, making his third big-league start, is still struggling to throw strikes; he’s put just 32 of 61 pitches over the plate. He’s allowed two hits and two walks in three innings, but so far, hasn’t given up a run.
