Nationals still being cautious with Zimmerman

Ryan Zimmerman, who had been playing through strained intercostal muscles in his ribs, is out of the Nationals’ lineup again today, and manager Jim Riggleman said the team will continue to be cautious with him over the next several days.

Riggleman said Zimmerman might be back in the lineup tomorrow, but he was encouraging the third baseman not to take any swings today.

Zimmerman, who was scratched from yesterday’s lineup, began feeling worse during batting practice yesterday. Riggleman said he wants Zimmerman to be able to play again this year, and aggravating the strain might knock him out for the final eight games of the season after tonight’s game with the Braves.
