Nationals in the Arizona Fall League: Day 8 roundup

The Scottsdale Scorpions got another win on Tuesday, running their Arizona Fall League record to 5-2 with the help of some strong performances from Nationals players.

Brad Peacock pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three batters and throwing just 26 pitches. He walked one batter, but didn’t give up a hit. Cole Kimball pitched the last two innings of the game, recording a save in the Scorpions’ 5-4 win over the Surprise Rafters. He allowed one hit and struck out one. Kimball is further along in the Nationals’ system than Peacock is, and could have a chance to reach the majors as part of the Nationals’ bullpen this year.

The three Nationals position prospects that played on Tuesday all contributed to the win, as well. Stephen Lombardozzi, playing second base, drew a walk and scored a run on an 0-for-3 day. Derek Norris drove in a run with a triple, and MIchael Burgess was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs.

Tonight’s Scorpions game, of course, will be the most anticipated of the Arizona Fall League season. That’s when Bryce Harper makes his AFL debut, at 9:35 Eastern time, against the Mesa Solar Sox.
