Nationals take early lead on Mets

VIERA, Fla. - Things are finally under way here at Space Coast Stadium, and once again, the Nationals are out to an early lead.

They scored two runs in the first inning when Adam LaRoche popped a bases-loaded ground-rule double over the center field wall, and added another on a RBI groundout by Ivan Rodriguez. They lead 3-0 in the top of the fourth.

Chad Gaudin has allowed three hits, but no runs, in his third outing of the spring. He’s had Mets hitters out in front of his slider a couple times in the fourth inning, and generated four groundouts. He continues to have a decent chance to make the team as a long reliever, and a slimmer one to make it as a starter.

After Gaudin, J.D. Martin will pitch for the Nationals, who will try to continue beating up on Mike Pelfrey in the fourth.
