PHILADELPHIA - Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman had successful arthroscopic surgery in Philadelphia to repair a torn rectus abdominis muscle today, general manager Mike Rizzo said. He will begin his rehab process tomorrow - Nationals trainer Lee Kuntz said on Saturday that Zimmerman would walk a mile the day after surgery - and continue it in Washington after the team’s series with the Phillies is over.
“It was better than the surgeon (Dr. Bill Meyers) thought when he got in there,” Rizzo said. “He said it was the least invasive it could be.”
The Nationals expect Zimmerman to be back in the lineup within six weeks, Rizzo said.
