Chien-Ming Wang to pitch at Potomac on Saturday

Chien-Ming Wang, who pitched three innings in his first rehab start at Single-A Hagerstown last week, will make his next start on Saturday for Single-A Potomac, the team announced today.

Wang gave up two runs on four hits in his last start, but his fastball was sitting in the high 80s and occasionally touched 90 mph. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2009, but if he can keep building arm strength through his rehab assignment and get to the point where he can throw five innings in a minor league game, the Nationals might look at adding him to their rotation at some point.

Jordan Zimmermann has thrown 102 2/3 innings this season, and the Nationals will likely shut him down for the year once he lands between 150 and 160 innings, so Wang could be a late-season replacement for him.
