Mariners-Nationals lineups for Tuesday

Hello from Nationals Park, where the Nationals and Mariners begin a three-game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. For two teams from opposite leagues and coasts of the United States, these clubs actually have quite a few links. Jim Riggleman was the interim manager for the Mariners at the end of the 2008 season, becoming the Nationals’ bench coach only after the team passed him over for the full-time managerial position. He replaced John McLaren, who was fired in the middle of that season and became Riggleman’s bench coach when he got the full-time job before 2009.

Michael Morse, who hits fifth for the Nationals tonight, came to Washington in a trade for Ryan Langerhans during the 2009 season. Adam Kennedy, who played 135 games for the Nationals last season, starts at third base and hits third for the Mariners. And of course, the Nationals got the rights to draft Stephen Strasburg in 2009 only because they got swept in the final three games of that season, while the Mariners - being managed by Riggleman - swept Oakland on the season’s final weekend to finish 1 1/2 games better than the Nationals.
