Maya knocked out early, Nats down 4-0

It started off promising enough, but the Arizona Diamondbacks got to Nationals starter Yunesky Maya. The righty seemed to have calmed down after allowing a home run to Chris Young in the second inning, but that wasn’t the case.

After getting through the third and fourth innings, the fifth inning brought trouble. Maya began the inning by walking Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter. He rebounded with a strikeout of Kelly Johnson after Ryan Roberts doubled, but he then hit Justin Upton with a pitch to load the bases.

Manager Jim Riggleman decided he’d seen enough from Maya and brought in lefty Doug Slaten to face Stephen Drew. Drew promptly hit a bases-clearing triple to give the Diamondbacks their current lead.

We’re in the seventh inning.
