Nationals beat Padres 2-0

SAN DIEGO - In spite of all the Nationals’ problems scoring runs in this series, they won three of four games. They beat the Padres 2-0 this afternoon, and the only damage done by their lack of offense for eight innings was that Jordan Zimmermann, who struck out 10 in seven innings didn’t get the win.

But the team did, and they finished their 11-game road trip 6-5. It’s the first time they’ve posted a winning record on a multi-city road trip since May 2008, in New York and Baltimore. And they head home at 30-36, with Ryan Zimmerman on the way back.

Danny Espinosa drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth, and Laynce Nix brought home another with his single on the next at-bat. Todd Coffey got the win for Washington, and Drew Storen got his 15th save.

More from the clubhouse in a little bit.
