Ryan Zimmerman’s rehab transfers to Single-A Potomac

SAN FRANCISCO - Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who went 2-for-2 with a walk in his first game on Sunday at Single-A Hagerstown, will take his rehab assignment up a level. The Nationals announced today that Zimmerman will continue his rehab assignment tonight at Single-A Potomac, and will play tonight for the team in its game against SIngle-A Frederick at Pfitzner Stadium.

Zimmerman, who is returning from surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle, told reporters after Sunday’s game he wasn’t ready to come back yet, but it stands to reason he’ll be back soon, provided he can play without pain. The Nationals’ offense has continued to scuffle without him, and there’s no question Zimmerman’s teammates are anxious to have him back.

So, if you’re looking to see some baseball tonight, Zimmerman will start for the P-Nats at 7:05 p.m. Between that, the start of the First-Year Player Draft and John Lannan facing Tim Lincecum out here, it’s going to be a busy day for the Nationals. We’ll keep you posted on all of it.
