Nationals beat Mets 3-2

Drew Storen blew a save attempt minutes after today’s 4 p.m. trade deadline, giving up a game-tying homer to Scott Hairston. But it didn’t matter; the Nationals were able to bail him out anyway.

They put together a ninth-inning rally with a single, a hit-by-pitch, a wild pitch and a chopper up the middle from Ian Desmond, which skipped off the top of Bobby Parnell’s glove and allowed Rick Ankiel to slide headfirst into home before Willie Harris’ throw gave Josh Thole a chance to tag him.

The Nationals scored their first two runs in the sixth inning with three straight doubles, which put Jordan Zimmermann in line for the win after six shutout innings. But the Mets rallied against Sean Burnett and Storen, making the Nationals’ ninth-inning run necessary.

More from the clubhouse in a little bit.
