The Nationals made a couple of roster moves today, signing 30th round pick Bryan Harper and giving Matt Stairs his unconditional release. Harper, who was a pitcher for the University of South Carolina, tweeted today that he’ll be joining the Nationals and heading to their rookie ball team in Viera, Fla. on Thursday.
He’s also got a little brother in the Nationals’ system - perhaps you’ve heard of him?
The team also released Stairs after designating him for assignment on July 27. Stairs hit .154 with two RBI in 56 games, and it was widely assumed the 43-year-old would opt for his release, rather than heading to the minors.
