Nationals lose to Reds 4-3 in series opener

Wilson Ramos’ big blow, a three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning, got the Nationals’ offense on the board, but Cincinnati beat Collin Balester in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Miguel Cairo ended the game with a walk-off single to score Drew Stubbs from second base for a 4-3 loss for the Nats.

Chien-Ming Wang went six innings, allowing just two runs (one earned), but the bullpen couldn’t hold on.

The game was delayed for 23 minutes and 15 seconds in the top of the eighth inning because of a lighting issue.

The Nationals will face the Reds Saturday night at 7:10 p.m., with Washington’s Ross Detwiler taking the mound against the Reds’ Mike Leake.
