Ryan Zimmerman likely to miss final two games with slight hamstring injury

MIAMI - Ryan Zimmerman is out of the Nationals’ lineup tonight with a slight hamstring strain, and he’s likely to miss the team’s season finale tomorrow, as well, as manager Davey Johnson tries to err on the side of caution with the third baseman.

Zimmerman was having trouble running during the Nationals’ win over the Marlins on Monday night, Johnson said, and while he probably could play tonight, the Nationals don’t want to chance a more significant injury just to get Zimmerman in the lineup for the last two games.

“He’s been getting some treatment on his hammies,” Johnson said. “I love him out there, but it’s not something that I want to see. He’s going to give it everything he’s got.”

Zimmerman missed the Nationals’ final 10 games last year with a similarly mild injury; he could have played through an oblique strain had the Nationals been competing for a playoff spot, but just like this year, they chose to end his season early as a precaution.
