Bryce Harper drove in a run in the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game and, Derek Norris and he both managed to get on base with a walk, but neither of the future Nationals did much else in the elite prospect league’s all-star game on Saturday.
Harper and Norris started for the AFL East team, which lost 11-2 to the AFL West team.
Harper drove in one of the East’s two runs with a sacrifice fly, and walked once, but was 0-for-2 at the plate. Norris was 0-for-2 with a walk, also striking out once before being lifted for Astros prospect Jason Castro.
Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole, the top pick in last June’s draft, gave up as many home runs (two) as batters he retired. He allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning, allowing four hits and also walking a batter.
Former University of Virginia lefty Danny Hultzen, made the No. 2 pick in the draft last June by the Mariners, struck out three batters in two no-hit innings and got the win.
