The Nationals and Cubs have played three innings in Chicago, and the Nationals trail 3-2. John Lannan, fighting cold temperatures and swirling winds, hasn't found the strike zone much.
Lannan has thrown 53 pitches in the first three innings, walking in a run in the second inning. He's walked four and given up four hits, missing on the left side of the plate repeatedly. It's been a rare bout with control issues for the left-hander, who's been sharp with his fastball his last couple starts. The one saving grace for Lannan has been two double plays, including one in the fourth that saved a run.
The Nationals got a gift from Carlos Silva, who walked in a run of his own in the third. They had three hits in the inning, pulling within one. WIth a couple of sinkerballers trying to keep their stuff together on a cold, windy night, this one could have plenty of twists and turns left.
