We're in the seventh at Nationals Park, and as they did on Sunday against the Brewers, the Nationals are chipping away at the big deficit their pitcher handed them early. They trail 10-4, scoring a couple in the fifth on a homer by Ryan Zimmerman and manufacturing two more runs in the sixth. The most encouraging thing there was the parties that were involved; Justin Maxwell and Ian Desmond each had base hits in the inning. Maxwell is 2-for-4 tonight with a double and a run.
The Nationals got some help from Rockies pitcher Jorge de la Rosa, who needed 118 pitches to get through five innings. They've only got three more innings to make a comeback, though.
In minor-league news: Double-A Harrisburg shut out Reading tonight, with Tom Milone, Hassan Pena and Adam Carr combining in the outing. Now those poor Reading hitters have to come back on a short night of rest and face Stephen Strasburg at 10:30 on Wednesday morning.
