It became apparent early that this would be one of those nights where the Nationals needed a slugger at their disposal. Fortunately for them, they had one.
Adam Dunn had his first three-homer game, hitting all three in innings where the Padres scored runs, as the Nationals outlasted San Diego 7-6 in a game that featured seven home runs.
Adam Kennedy replaced Dunn at first base in the ninth inning, making a couple heads-up defensive plays to stop a Padres rally. The Nationals clinched a series victory over San Diego, and have a chance for the sweep tomorrow night.
