Long first inning for Strasburg

Stephen Strasburg's eighth major league start already looks like it won't be one of his longer ones. He threw 34 pitches in the first inning, walking two batters, but kept the Marlins from scoring in the first.

Strasburg frequently missed with his slider off the outside edge of the plate in the first inning, and couldn't clip the corner with his fastball enough to keep his pitch count down. He also got drawn into a 12-pitch at-bat with Marlins rookie Gaby Sanchez, who drew a walk with a savvy at-bat that showed why he's one of Strasburg's prime Rookie of the Year competitors.

The Nationals got two hits off Ricky Nolasco in the first inning, including an Adam Dunn single through two layers of the Marlins' shift, but couldn't score.
