By now, you've probably heard plenty about the whipped cream pie Nationals president Stan Kasten hit general manager Mike Rizzo with during the team's press conference to announce the signing of Bryce Harper.
Nats Daily News' Ian Koski alertly photographed the ambush, and the Nationals' PR staff has video of it here.
My one contribution to the photographic account was here.
Kasten said the Nationals' staff had been planning it all day, and executive assistant Harolyn Cardozo put the pie together while Rizzo was talking to the media about the Harper signing. Rizzo also got the silver Elvis wig, which is given to the Nationals' player of the game.
Rizzo turned just before the pie hit him but had no shot at getting out of the way, and as you'll see on the video, Kasten hit him hard with it, as the Nationals' staff broke up and reporters reacted with shock and laughter.
Rizzo conducted the rest of his press conference covered in whipped cream, as Kasten - who had some of it splattered on his shirt - interrupted with more barbs.
Rizzo's reaction?
"All I have to say is, payback's a moth--," Rizzo said and stopped there, probably to his own benefit with recorders running. But when the team introduces Harper at a press conference next week - possibly on live TV - Rizzo could have a perfect opportunity for revenge.
