The Nationals made a pair of moves this afternoon, neither one of them surprising.
They officially recalled Justin Maxwell from Triple-A Syracuse, adding him to the roster and putting a fifth player back on their bench after the Cristian Guzman trade. Maxwell, who was at Nationals Park yesterday to fly west with the team, is in his fourth big-league stint this year. But this time, there's nothing saying he needs to head back to the minors in a week or two; the Nationals will likely have the bench spot to spare for Maxwell, unless they decide to add Wilson Ramos as a third catcher before September.
They also put Tyler Walker, who had surgery to repair a torn labrum on Friday, on the 60-day disabled list. Walker is out for the season, and is hoping to be ready by spring training. He's a free agent after the year, though, and the only way he comes back to the Nationals is probably on a minor-league deal.
