The Nationals officially called up Yunesky Maya from Triple-A Syracuse this afternoon, adding the right-hander to the roster before he starts for the team tonight. They also activated Ross Detwiler from the 15-day disabled list, and called up right-hander Joe Bisenius from Syracuse, giving them another power arm in their bullpen to finish the season.
Bisenius signed with the team as a minor league free agent in May. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007, but had a 2.70 ERA in 14 relief appearances in Syracuse in 2010.
To make room for Bisenius, the Nationals designated catcher Carlos Maldonado for assignment. Maldonado came to the majors for two weeks in May and June while Ivan Rodriguez was on the disabled list. He played four games for the Nationals, going 3-for-11 with a homer.
