Nationals trail Braves 1-0 after Gonzalez's error

We're in the fourth inning, and the Nationals are down 1-0 to the Braves as the result of a bizarre play in the third inning.

With Brian McCann at the plate and the Nationals' infield in a lefty shift, third baseman Alberto Gonzalez stopped a grounder with two outs and tried to throw out McCann from his knees. But the throw skipped low, and Adam Dunn's scoop attempt turned into a pinball flipper-like deflection of the ball toward the Nationals' dugout. Derek Lowe, who led off the inning with a double, scored, and the Nationals got out of the inning with only one run allowed when they threw out Jason Heyward at home plate after the outfielder also tried to reach home on the error.

Yunesky Maya has allowed three hits and two walks, but other than the third-inning error, he's pitched out of a couple jams. He's thrown 62 pitches in four innings, where Lowe has used 80 to get that far.
