Ross Detwiler starting Thursday against Astros

Ross Detwiler, who has been pitching out of the Nationals' bullpen since returning from the 15-day disabled list, will start for the Nationals on Thursday against the Astros.

Detwiler, who has made only three big league starts this year because of a torn hip flexor that required surgery and sent him back to the disabled list in July when he strained it again, has been pitching out of the bullpen since he was recalled at the beginning of the month. Manager Jim Riggleman had been looking to get Detwiler a start, and will slip him into the rotation on Thursday against Houston.

It will probably be the only start yet this year for Detwiler, who has otherwise been getting innings out of the bullpen. He'll get a shot to compete for the Nationals' rotation next spring.
