High pitch count knocks Zimmermann out early

Through three innings at Nationals Park, the Marlins are leading the Nationals 5-2. Starter Jordan Zimmermann is out of the game after throwing 80 pitches early -- a product of two errors, three walks and the Marlins' ability to foul off a ton of his pitches.

Zimmermann allowed two home runs to Marlins rookie Mike Stanton, his 19th and 20th of the season. The first came on a 3-2 curveball and the second on a 2-2 fastball, though both landed in the same spot in left field.

Florida also scored on an RBI single by Emilio Bonifacio and on Zimmermann's errant pick off throw in the second inning.

The Nationals answered back in the bottom of the second inning with a short rally off of Chris Volstad. Catcher Ivan Rodriguez singled to drive in Adam Dunn and Michael Morse. In the third, the Nationals added another run on Ryan Zimmerman's RBI single, scoring Ian Desmond.

Nyjer Morgan's first at bat against Volstad since the brawl in Miami was rather uneventful, but Morgan won the second inning showdown with a single to the load the bases.

Miguel Batista will take over for Zimmermann.
