Harper in lineup for AFL debut tonight

Bryce Harper will officially make his Arizona Fall League debut tonight; he is in the Scottsdale Scorpions' lineup for their game tonight with the Mesa Solar Sox.

The 18-year-old, who was the No. 1 pick in the June Draft, will bat seventh and play right field.

The Nationals prospect will likely face Phillies right-hander Josh Zeid in his first at-bat; the 6-foot-5 pitcher started 12 games and saved eight for Single-A Lakewood last year, and he struck out 111 batters in 107 1/3 innings.

In a Q-and-A with PhuturePhillies.com this year, Zeid talked about his out pitch to lefties, a "Fosh change" that starts up in the zone and drops, a la Roger Clemens. He pitched in the South Atlantic League this year, and he's a pitcher Harper is likely to see again during his minor league development.

The Scorpions game gets underway at 9:35 Eastern time. I'll have an update later tonight on how Harper does.
