The Nationals trail the Mets 1-0 after three innings, more as a result of their own inability to cash in on opportunities than anything Yunesky Maya's doing wrong. They have stranded four runners in the first three innings, leaving the bases loaded in the second after putting runners on second and third to start the inning. Alberto Gonzalez and Adam Kennedy hit flyouts, but neither was deep enough to score Michael Morse from third.
Maya, who has been sharp otherwise, did walk Ruben Tejada to start the third inning, and Tejada eventually scored on Jesus Feliciano's sac fly to center. Justin Maxwell made his second sliding catch of the day to stop the ball, but didn't have a play on Tejada from center field.
So we're through three, and the Nationals are down 1-0, with a few missed opportunities to their names already.
