Nationals outright Ryan Mattheus

The Nationals made a minor roster move this afternoon, outrighting right-hander Ryan Matheus to Triple-A Syracuse. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster. Mattheus, who was part of the Joe Beimel trade at the 2009 deadline, is coming off Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss almost all of the 2010 season.

He will get an invite to big league spring training, though, so the right-hander - who pitched a combined 10 games for the Nationals' two lowest farm clubs this year - will get a chance to show how he's recovered from the surgery.
