We're well into the throes of spring training planning around here - I've spent the better part of the week looking into flights, cars, hotels and the like - and pretty soon, pitchers and catchers will be reporting in Viera.
In that spirit, I wanted to post this a couple weeks ahead of time to get some discussion going about what you'd like to see at spring training this year. I'm always game for your suggestions and ideas about coverage, and you can post them here. Bookmark this post if you like, and come back and add more to it as you come up with new thoughts.
A couple ideas that have been cooking here: We're hoping to have a few new multimedia offerings from Space Coast Stadium this year; I'll have a Flip cam with me, and I'm hoping to shoot more video - both from workouts and interviews with players, coaches and manager Jim Riggleman. I might also start a weekly journal/mailbag, either in podcast or video form, and whether it's with me or a player, you'll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
We'll also be doing game chats, though those will probably look a little different than they did last year. Rather than doing one every day, I'll probably try to pick a couple days a week to live chat with all of you and update you on what's going on. I'd like to spend a little more time amongst the scouts this year, getting their observations on the on-field action, and it's hard to do a game chat from my BlackBerry while doing that (It'll get easier once I get an iPhone, but for those of you who were following this discussion on Twitter a couple weeks ago, I'm probably going to take a late adopter stance and wait for the iPhone 5, rather than spring for the Verizon iPhone 4, unless somebody can give me a good reason not to do that).
What else would you like to see from our spring training coverage this year? Leave your ideas here and let me know. And check back often - I'll respond to your ideas and questions here.
