VIERA, Fla. - After a bullpen session on Thursday where he still looked months away from pitching in the majors, Chien-Ming Wang showed some improvement on Saturday. His velocity was up, his pitches looked crisper and Wang said his arm felt better on Saturday than it did Thursday.
It's only a small step, but Wang continues to believe he's heading in the right direction.
"I felt stronger," he said. "I felt my throwing motion was more smooth."
Wang, who had shoulder surgery in 2009 that kept him out all of last year, said he didn't feel any pain, and wasn't sore on Thursday after throwing his first bullpen session. He will likely start the year on the disabled list as he continues to build arm strength, but the Nationals are hopeful he can pitch in the majors sometime in the first half of the season.
