PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Michael Morse is three innings into his second game of the spring at Digital Domain Park. He's already got three homers here.
The left fielder hit his third of the spring, all of them in this park, in the second inning off Chris Capuano to put the Nationals up 1-0 over the Mets. They lead 2-0 now, after Jerry Hairston Jr. also went deep.
But they've had some issues in the first three innings. Jordan Zimmermann hasn't given up a run, but he's had a number of hard-hit balls, including Willie Harris' double in the first inning and Daniel Murphy's long fly ball that required an impressive running catch from Rick Ankiel in center field. He also just walked Jose Reyes and Harris in the third.
The Nationals also have continued to look ragged in the field. Ian Desmond couldn't decide whether to charge a high hopper or play back on it, and muffed it for his second error of the spring when he got caught in no man's land. And Justin Turner stole a base in the second when Brian Bixler (who's had a rough spring defensively) couldn't handle a good throw from Wilson Ramos.
Washington continues to hit, though. And for now, that's got the Nationals ahead.
