VIERA, Fla. - We're in the bottom of the sixth at Space Coast Stadium, and while Tom Gorzelanny has continued to cruise along for the most part, he got burned by a one-out walk in the fourth inning. After he issued the free pass to Matt Holliday, David Freese hammered a two-run shot over the right field wall to put the Cardinals up 2-1.
That was really Gorzelanny's only hiccup for the night, though; he went six innings, struck out five, walked one and gave up four hits. His slider was an effective pitch all night, working as a nice backdoor option to righties a night after Jordan Zimmermann exploited the outside corner of the strike zone against the Tigers' lefties. In his final spring start, Gorzelanny looked ready to go.
He also laid down a pair of successful sacrifice bunts, setting up the Nationals' first run in the third inning when he moved Alberto Gonzalez to second. Nyjer Morgan drove in Gonzalez with a single.
