VIERA, Fla. - Jordan Zimmermann came into Friday's game against the Cardinals having not allowed a run. He left after four innings, pondering his most ineffective of four spring training starts.
The right-hander exited after allowing six runs on eight hits and walking two. He threw two wild pitches, one that plated the run that gave the Cardinals a 6-2 lead in the top of the fourth, and didn't record a strikeout.
He threw 69 pitches, 44 of them for strikes. The four-inning stint was one less than he pitched in his last start March 13, but the high pitch count explains that backsliding. Zimmermann's ERA rose from 0.00 to 3.60.
Brian Broderick is on in relief.
