For all of his seemingly preternatural talent, Bryce Harper is sure a slow starter. He struggled early at the College of Southern Nevada last year before surpassing the previous school record for homers by 19. He scuffled at the beginning of spring training this year, and wound up hitting .389. And at Single-A Hagerstown, he was hitting .226 in the first 10 games of the season.
But the 18-year-old has always come out of his slumps, and he might be done with his at Hagerstown.
Harper went 3-for-3 on Friday night, homering for the third time (and second in as many games). He drove in six runs in the Suns' 17-1 rout of Hickory, and fell a triple short of the cycle.
He's now hitting .306, and his 14 RBI lead the team.
