After today's loss to the Cardinals, the Nationals optioned catcher Jesus Flores back to Triple-A Syracuse, after calling him up for a pair of pinch hit at-bats with Ryan Zimmerman on the disabled list. The team will make a corresponding move tomorrow.
I'm guessing that move will be to call up infielder Brian Bixler, who was pulled from the Chiefs' game in the fourth inning today. Bixler had an impressive spring at the plate, and would give the Nationals another infield option while Ian Desmond is on paternity leave.
Flores went 1-for-2 after being called up last week. He'll go back to Syracuse, where he can catch every day and continue to build strength in his arm in his first year back from shoulder surgery. The Nationals didn't have much intention of using Flores in the field, and with Desmond gone for a couple days, it would make sense to get another infielder.
