PHILADELPHIA - Well, Jason Marquis was due to have a bad one sometime. And if it was going to happen anywhere, Citizens Bank Park seemed like the place.
He entered the night with a 1-4 record here and a 7.88 ERA in six games. After tonight, his ERA will actually go up.
What was a scoreless game through 4 1/2 innings has turned into a romp for the Phillies, who scored seven runs (six of them earned) off Marquis in the fifth and sixth innings. The last three came in with Brian Broderick on the mound, but Marquis was responsible for all of them. It's 7-1 Phillies now, and this one seems just about over.
Marquis has been superb all year, but he wasn't good at finding the strike zone tonight; he threw only 51 of 89 pitches for strikes.
J.C. Romero is on the mound for the Phillies now in the seventh inning, but the Nationals' chance of winning this one appears gone.
