After the Nationals' rainout against the Pirates today, the team has done a little switching in its rotation, using the postponement to skip Jordan Zimmermann in the rotation. That makes perfect sense; Zimmermann won't pitch more than 150 or 160 innings this year after returning from Tommy John surgery, so skipping his turn in the rotation allows him to stay on regular rest (if he throws a side session today) and takes him a start further into the season.
In an email, a team spokesman took great care to emphasize that there's no injury to Zimmermann, calling it a "manager's decision." Zimmermann will make his next start on Sunday against the Orioles in Baltimore (sorry, cheeseheads).
Here is the Nationals' rotation for the next five games:
Wednesday (at Mets): Tom Gorzelanny
Thursday (at Mets): Livan Hernandez
Friday (at Orioles): Jason Marquis
Saturday (at Orioles): John Lannan
Sunday (at Orioles): Jordan Zimmermann
