Outfielder Bryce Harper and right-handed pitcher Brad Peacock will be the Nationals' two representatives in the MLB All-Star Futures Game on July 10, the Nationals announced today. Both players will travel to Phoenix for the game the Sunday before the All-Star Game.
Harper, the No. 1 pick in last year's First-Year Player Draft, is hitting .330/.429/.586 with 14 homers and 45 RBI at Single-A Hagerstown. He just played in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on Tuesday night, and could be on his way to moving to a higher level of the minor leagues by the time the game rolls around. He was the main attraction in the Arizona Fall League last year, and figures to be again.
Peacock, 23, is 8-2 with a 2.46 ERA at Double-A Harrisburg, and has struck out 108 batters in 80 1/3 innings, walking just 17. He also pitched in the Arizona Fall League last season.
The game is at 6 p.m. on July 10 and can be seen on ESPN2. I'll be arriving in Phoenix that day for the All-Star Game, so I'll have plenty of coverage from there.
