Entering tonight, Drew Storen had blown only one save this season. Tyler Clippard had only blown three leads. It's been next to impossible for a team to come back on both of them. But the Cardinals have done it tonight.
After Albert Pujols homered on a fastball over the plate off Clippard in the eighth inning, Storen left a sinker up to Yadier Molina, who hit it into the Cardinals' bullpen - the same place Pujols' shot landed. We're now tied at four in the ninth inning.
And on top of that, the Nationals' errorless streak finally ended in the top of the ninth inning, with Danny Espinosa making a throwing error on a slow hopper. The Nationals announced the streak at 130 2/3 errorless innings, though there was one out when Espinosa's error occurred, which would bring it to 131 innings even. Regardless, it was the longest streak in the majors this season.
The Nationals will try to rally on Fernando Salas in the ninth. They just pinch hit for Storen, meaning they'll have Todd Coffey or Sean Burnett if this goes to 10 innings.
