SAN DIEGO - Hey, what do you know - the Nationals and Padres are playing a low-scoring game!
Jordan Zimmermann has struck out seven batters through four innings, blowing his fastball by the Padres for eight swinging strikes so far. He's looked dominant against a weak lineup, but all those strikeouts could be coming at a cost; Zimmermann has thrown 72 pitches through four innings, and probably needs a couple quick ones here to get himself into the sixth inning.
That's important, because as Zimmermann is throwing a shutout, Tim Stauffer is doing the same for the Padres against a weak Nationals lineup. The Nationals have just two hits off Stauffer in the first four innings, and Tyler Clippard - who's thrown three innings in the last two days - won't be available today. They'll have to hope they can jump on Stauffer for a couple runs, while Zimmermann tries to get through six innings.
